Folder Sharing Help Needed

Guest

I am in a network envirorment, (5 workstations connected to a server) and
attempted to set up advanced sharing using XP professional so that only
specific logon users can access certain folders. In my many attempts at
doing this, the only file sharing that I can to work is simple sharing. I
need the advanced shairing option to restrict to specific users. Any
insight as to how to accomplish this would be appreciated. So far, all help
files and documentation haven't worked.
Thanks

See if the following link helps.

You don't really say where the shares are located - on the server,
workstations, or both but you need to have user accounts on any computer
with a share [unless you are using an Active Directory domain and are
authenticating to domain user accounts] with simple file sharing disabled
that match the user account [logon/password] of the user logged onto their
computer trying to access the share or they at least need to know a
user/password. Also verify that the guest account is disabled on computers
with shares. Then you need to specify the user/groups that are allowed
access to the share and you need to configure both share permissions and the
folder [NTFS permissions] of the folder being shared. Share permissions
apply onto to users trying to access the share from the network while folder
permissions apply to any user trying to access the folder either through a
share or logged on locally. The links below may be helpful on configuring
permissions if you have not seen any such yet. --- Steve
