Folder Redirection problem

Guest

I've got Windows 200 Pro clients logging onto a Windows 2003 server. I've
configured GPO to re-direct my documents folder but it does not apply the
setting fro me. This is also the case on Windows xp Pro clients . It applies
all others settings but does not apply folder redirection.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

The above is pretty vague, but we can try or at
least get you started....

So you have a (single) GPO where some settings
are DEFINITELY being applied from THAT
SPECIFIC GPO to the USER, and yet the same
GPO contains Folder Redirection that is not being
applied to the User.

First, you will note that a GPO applies Folder
Redirection to the USER (not to the machine).
(I.E., it's the USER'S folders which are redirected.)

So user much be in a container which has the GPO
linked or inherited, the User half of the policy must
be enabled, etc.

Next to check:

Permissions on the server Share point itself (for those users)
Permissions on the underlying NTFS Directories and Files
Authentication -- an unauthenticated user will get no GPO
from the domain
Failure to authenticate is usually a DNS problem
Failure to resolve the name of the File share server

You can eliminate many of these by logging on as such
a user and just manually mapping the drive and proving
the user can find, authenticate, and access the share and
file system (NTFS.)
