Folder permissions

Ok, I've got a basic question about permissions.

I'm running IIS on Win2003 Server and am trying to set up an area where
users can upload files from a web/php program. I'm afraid the problem I'm
having (php error and file doesn't get uploaded) is that the permissions
aren't set correctly.

When I view the file permissions on the folder I'm trying to set up, I have
a light grey check in the 'read only' checkbox. I can't seem to remove it.
I know its probably inheritated from somewhere else, but even if I go back
to the inetpub folder, its also 'read only'.

I'm getting frustrated, and running out of ideas of where to look.

Can someone suggest what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks!
Steve

The last time I faced something like this - and it was eons ago and was on a
2k Server system IIRC so it was ages ago but is likely still valid - I
cheated. I simply (after banging my head against it for a couple of days)
used my FTP client, logged on, and just CHMODed the directory that I wanted
to save files into to 777. I don't think it was running IIS but rather was
Apache but I don't think that'd make much of a difference??? Note that it
was with an actual FTP client and not using IE or Explorer as a client.

The "read-only" checkbox in folder properties on the "General" tab has
absolutely nothing to do with folder permission. Please select the
Security tab and make you selections as to permissions.
