Folder Options

The Folder Options icon is missing from my Control Panel and it is also not
available under the View menu or any other menu for that matter. How do I
get it back?

This problem arises for one of two reasons:
1 Group Policy Editor has somehow been set so that Folder Options are not
displayed
Check this registry key
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
------------If you see a string for no folder options delete it.
2 The system is corrupted.
-> Use system restore. If you do not have a Restore Point for when the
problem was not present then:
-> First run System File Checker Start, Run, and then type in SFC /scannow
with your windows CD in the boot optical drive.
If this does not fix the problem you will have to do a Repair install of
Windows.
-> While in Windows, close all applications and then insert the Windows CD
from the installation menu at the last prompt select upgrade. If you have
not done this before look up "How to do a repair install" on the web, there
are many tutorials.

For Windows XP Professional:

1. Click Start - Run - type GPEDIT.MSC
2. Expand to
User Configuration
Administrative Templates
Windows Components
Windows Explorer
3. Double-click "Remove the Folder Options menu item from the Tools menu" in
right side pane.
4. If it is set to "Enable" or "Not configured" then set it "Disable".

For both Windows XP and Home Edition: (Modifying registry need high
attention. Do it carefully)

1. Click Start - Run - type Regedit
2. Here expand to HKEY_CURRENT_USER
SOFTWARE
MICROSOFT
WINDOWS
CURRENTVERSION
POLICIES
EXPLORER
3. in the right-side pane check for the DWORD value NoFolderOptions
4. If it is not there then create a new DWORD value by right-clicking
NEW-DWORD
5. Type a name 'NoFolderOptions" and press Enter.
6. Double-click the entry and set the value to 0
7. Open any folder and see if Folder Options is there. If it is still not
there then Log Off and Log in again or make a restart

Further, you must check your computer for Spywares. Hope this information
helps you, let us know!

Dear onclejon

Yes! Yes! Yes! It worked. The problem was caused by the Warezov worm that
The PC picked up through e-mail and I stuggled using a number of different
anti-virus programmes without success. It is a pitty that a bright brain like
yours must will be wasted one day. I can now change my name from Dr Struggle
to Dr Satisfied ;-)

Thanks again

I have an identical problem with "Dr. Struggle". But I am sorry I have
applied the recommended procedure including removing all spywares but without
success. I have newly installed a "Windows XP Unlimited" Version 2005 SP2. I
dont know if any "worm" is hiding somewhere as is the case with "Dr.
Struggle", please.

Kindly help.

Thank you very much. But MS Windows is persistently warning against the
running of this software (especially line 225) for non-verification and of
the publisher as well, yet I would like to get over this problem! Neither am
I able to view the script through registry editor or notepad, please. Should
I go ahead?

I am very very grateful. Kelly's fixes are indeed trustworthy. I merged line
225 and the folder options were instantly restored!
