Folder Options no longer available in Vista?

My camera and many other USB products CANNOT be detected by Windows Vista,
but can normally be detected by PCs using Windows XP or any other OS.
The reason is Vista tries to be smart and recognizes my Folders as
Applications (i.e. ~.exe) instead. I tried to change my Folder Options to
display extension, so that I can overcome that myself. But Vista again tries
to act smart and provides many new options BUT NOT the Folder Options that
regular Windows users are already accustomed to.

Thanks for the reply,
1. If you read carefully, the USB device CAN BE RECOGNIZED, but the Folders
in it are detected by Vista as Application (~.exe) instead of simply a Folder.
For example, my camera (in USB mode) has 2 Folders "Misc" and "DCIM" if I
hadn't remembered the spelling wrongly. DCIM is somehow detected by Vista as
an application, and there is no way I can revert that unless I have access to
the Folder Options to remove the additional uncalled-for extension that was
appended by Vista.

2. There is a second limitation of Vista that inhibits the access to Folder
Options, which I don't know why. According to Ramesh's url that I read in one
of the forum threads here, I have to use Regedit to disable the
HideFolderOptions that is only introduced in Vista. But applying it gives me
the Error Window that Regedit is disabled, and Vista automatically reboot my
pc.

3. A slightly irrelevant issue here, but also related to the limitation of
Vista that is not seen on earlier more-stable Windows OS. My DSL modem that
was campatible for all earlier Windows OS including XP is NOT compatible for
Vista. This surprises me as normally the the compatibility range of newer OS
is normally wider than the older ones, eg. XP is compatible with hardware
that are compatible with 2000/ME/98/95. Even the USB-datalink cable for
pc-to-pc transfer needs a new type for compatibility.

Rgds,
Dave
