Fn keys no longer working

Hi,

I have a Sony Vaio laptop that initially came with Windows XP, and ever
since I installed Vista none of the keys on the keyboard that are supposed to
be used in conjunction with the Fn key to brighten the screen or change the
volume no longer work. Is there any way to fix this or does anyone know what
might be going on? Thank you in advance!

There are a number of extra drivers and programs that you need to install to
use all the features of your laptop. You will find them here:

Sony has the best download centre that I have seen, for their computers.

That last sentence makes me cringe. What I meant was that the Sony website
is better than the ones I have seen from other manufacturers. It beats the
ThinkPad ThinkVantage system, and it is the main thing I miss about my old
VAIO.

Be sure to install any useful software from the link I gave you, to get all
the functionality of your laptop. A lot of it will be useful.

The important drivers from Sony, for Vista, are these. This should get your
FN buttons, sound buttons, screen signals, etc., working You'll have to
star here, and choose the appropriate model:

http://esupport.sony.com/perl/model-find.pl

Then click on "Software/Drivers", and then click on OS Migration. Download
and install:

VAIO® Event Services Update 01/30/2007

Sony® Shared Library Update 01/30/2007

Sony® Video Shared Library Update 01/30/2007

Sony® Utilities DLL Update 01/30/2007

Sony® Battery Check Utility Update 01/30/2007

Setting Utility Series Update 02/14/2007 (the earlier-dated one is a more
recent version than the later-dated one, don't ask me why)

Sony® VAIO® Power Management Utility Update 02/19/2007

Sony® Notebook Control Device Driver 03/16/2007

Microsoft® Update KB935333 04/19/2007

There may be device driver updates specific to your devices, as well as a
BIOS update for compatibility with Vista, that you can also install...

Check the settings in your BIOS. I had the very same problem with my
older Compaq that came with XP. I had to use a different setting
concerning the Fn key and the num lock with Vista.
It now works with Vista.
