Flow charts & Text boxes

I am learning PowerPoint 2003 and just learned about creating flow charts.
In the book, it said that I need to place a text box inside of the shapes I
create, but I'm not quite sure why. I am able to type text in these shapes,
and when I move the shapes, the text moves with them. So, my question is, is
this a necessary step? Will typing the text directly in these boxes present
problems when using other features, or is it okay to skip this step?

Hi Noobie

The text inside the shape is in a text box automatically (see the text box
tab in the format autoshape dialogue box) - maybe that's what the book meant?
You are right - no need to add one in manually.

There is an MS course on flowcharting in PPT 2003 here:

you will also find other handy courses & how to... guides
