floppy compatibility issues

XP Home system with a 3-1/2 floppy drive.
Has been SP-1 and now is SP-2.
No change in the problem... see below:

Floppies can be formatted on this system and used just fine it seems.
However, taking those floppies to other computers seems to not work some of
the time.
When such transfer doesn't work, the disks are viewed as "not formatted" on
the other computer(s).
The floppy drive itself was replaced - no change.

I have heard there is a floppy drive driver issue and that 3-mode drivers
will solve this problem. However, I've found no definitive discussion in
this regard or a definitive source for such a driver.

Is there likely a definitive approach to this problem? It seems that many
people have encountered something like it and the discussion keeps coming
back to 3-mode floppy drives needing an appropriate driver for xp. I find
nothing on the MS website / KB.

Thanks,

Fred

Been there, done that. There's a lot of conjecture out there it seems.
Thus my search for a *definitive* approach. I haven't found one yet.

More information:
On some XP Pro or 2000 Pro systems, loading a floppy written on the system
below results in a message something like "Disk ID label missing"

Thanks,

Fred
