Floppy & CD Spins Up On Startup/Shutdown??

Dwight Stewart

My floppy and CD drives started spinning up for several seconds during the
computer startup and shutdown process recently. They were not doing this
before and there is nothing in either of the drives.

1. What might cause this type of behavior?

2. Is this necessary - for example, to run a backup program's boot disk?
I recently installed Norton's Ghost, but not sure that's
related.

3. Is there a way to control this - a control panel or something?

Thanks for your assistance.

Likely caused by a program option that is set to check these drives during
startup/shutdown. Check the options for any newly installed software.

I will, Ronnie. The only thing I've installed recently was Norton's Ghost,
but found nothing about that in the manual or settings. However, I'll keep
looking.
