Flat screen problem

Hi,

I have just purchased a 2nd hand Proview 15" flat screen. I plugged it into my system and switched it on. The initial system info comes up followed by the Windows XP home screen. Then the screen goes blank followed biy a small message box telling me VGA MODE NOT SUPPORT at the bottom of the box there is written H: 35.4 KHZ V: 86.8HZ. Now the box which the screen came in says that the Max Resolution is 1024x768 @75KHZ. Is there an easy fix to this as I am not really techy minded. Although I can follow simple instructions.

Thanks for any help that is given.

Just thought I would add that I have tried the screen on my wifes compluter which is a Pent4 and it was fine. Also tried on a lap top and again it was fine

Try booting to Safe Mode and going to Display Properties / Settings /
Advanced / Monitor / refresh rate to 65 or 75. Jym

Hi Jym,

I can't seem to boot to safe mode as I press F8 when booting but goes to a screen which lists boot sequence. Are there any other keys that I should press?

Thanks

It is a strange thing , but F8 need to be depressed in a quick repeated
fashion for best results. Jym

Hi Jym,

Tried that but it comes up with a box which says "Select first boot device" and then lists Floppy IDE CDRom etc. I don't know what button to press to get to the safe mode. Any suggestions?

Thanks

It sounds like you are entering the bios instead of Safe Mode. The key to
enter Safe Mode is usually posted when the computer first starts up with the
basic information , or post. I thought F8 was used to enter the safe mode in
most computers . Jym

Try going to start..run and type msconfig. Go to the boot.ini tab and
put a check in safeboot and reboot. Be sure to go back to msconfig and
uncheck safeboot when you're through.

Thanks guys I have managed to get into Safe Mode (yeehaa). I have followed the instructions to change the refresh rate but it will not allow any changes to be made. The text is "use hardware default settings" Is there a way of changing this?

Thanks again for all your help
