Flashfile won't embed: no different than playing mpeg?

Hello,

I embedded a flash file into my pptx file. I sent the file to somebody.
File wouldn't run. Because it wasn't where it supposed to be. We off
course, embedding means (I think) that the flash file becomes part of the
pptx, it is not a file to be accompanied. Embedding as flash is the reason
why I did convert it from mpeg file in order to avoid this in the first
place. Yes, "embed" field in the properties is checked. And I am using
PowerPoint 2007. So what's wrong?

What it says, and what I does are two different things. Only files that get embedded are .WAV files all others are linked.You might want to have a look at this as an alternative, and give PFCExpress ( a completely fee add-in) a try. Download a copy from: http://www.playsforcertain.com

You converted the mpeg to swf and embedded it following the directions here?:

Hello Glenna,

I followed instructions form several sites including the one you gave
me.

1. The pptx and the swf files are placed in the same directory.
2. I place a ShockWaveObject in slide.
3. I set its Embedded property to true (or in the wizard check the
embedded field)
4. Save the file as pptx and as ppsx.
5. Then I load the pptx, check the flash file, it runs fine
6. I remove the flash file from the directory the pptx is in. Run the
presentation. No flash, nothing not even a picture!
7. I run the ppts show. I see only the first picture of the flash, it
doesn't run.

I have PowerPoint 2007 and the flash is the latest from Adobe all
running in Vista Business (on Dell Inspiron 1720, 2GB memory)

So where is the problem? Michael who is MVP on PowerPoint just as you
says (see the post):

Who is right?And what justification does MS have not to embed or have a
feature to link files properly in this version of PowerPoint (and the famous
replay problem)? These are problems for many years. Everybody has very
different opinions on these issues and no working solution. The 3rd party
solution to just embed a multimedia file is absurd to say the least. In any
case, what Michael suggested is not working either. After that program
installed 3-4 programs, I started getting many error messages. So shall I
give up embedding a flash file into my presentation?

That is correct. Media is always linked.

PowerPoint is a presentation application, not a publishing application.
As to the replay problems, tell the world to stop creating new codecs and
everyone use just one format. (Never going to happen.)

These are problems for many years. Everybody has very different opinions
on these issues and no working solution. The 3rd party solution to just
embed a multimedia file is absurd to say the least.

To my knowledge there is no third party app that will do this.

In any case, what Michael suggested is not working either. After that
program installed 3-4 programs, I started getting many error messages.

PFCExpress does not install anything other than itself. Perhaps you
selected the wrong add-in?

Correct, Pro will insert the Flash and it also includes PFCExpress features
for emailing the presentation. If you had problems or errors please drop

(Tried to post this yesterday, but it seems I hit "reply" instead of "reply
group." oops.)

For what it's worth, I've seen this same issue in PPT 2007.

The upshot is, playing Flash in PPT 2007 seems to be very unreliable. You
might go to http://www.adobe.com and update the Flash player in IE. I think
this updates the ActiveX control that PPT relies on as well. That usually at
least allows the SWF to play, but I don't think that will help with
embedding. (Just including this information so when I refer to it another
time I have all the details.)

I believe the problem with embedding SWFs has something to do with PPT 2007
security controls (or something else in PPT 2007). I know that if you
download some of the training presentations from Office Online that include
SWFs
(http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/TC102026341033.aspx?pid=CT102036981033
, for example), you must save them as PPT (97-2003 format) files, otherwise
they lose the embedded SWFs. Saving as PPTM and changing security settings
doesn't seem to help. I've reported that as a bug, but I don't know that
it's been fixed.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, it's not just you, I've seen the same
problem, I consider it a bug, but I don't know when or if it will be fixed.
I'll try to post an update if I hear anything.

Actually, now that I think of it, I don't know if the embedded SWF is
actually gone, or if it just ceases to play when you save the file as PPT
2007 format -- I need to check the file size, I guess.
