fixing an "open hangle"

Gary Karasik

Hello,

I am getting a USERENV 1000 error. I have narrowed the cause to the
following open registry key:

AWHOST32.EXE (732) \REGISTRY\User\S-1-5-21-1961297542-633417484-5522801-500
(0x374)

However I don't know how to proceed from here.

Can anyone suggest a way to troubleshoot/repair this problem?

Workaround
Stop the AWHOST32 (Symantec pcAnywhere) prior to logoff/shutdown.
Possible a Service you can stop with
net stop <service name>

Thanks, Mark. I was hoping to find the source of the problem. The registry
key that the error describes doesn't exist, so I don't know what to do from
here.

That "500" account is probably the original local "Administrator"
account (if that helps). Try Symantec for more perhaps.

"\REGISTRY\User\S-1-5-21-1961297542-633417484-5522801-500"
would be
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1961297542-633417484-5522801-500\ ...

Thanks. No help at Symantec, and the key doesn't exist. Any other thoughts?

Un-install the Symantec product. Reboot. Clean out the registry for
any left over references to the publisher/product. Reboot. Re-
install the product.

You _must_ make a full registry backup before you edit the registry.
Also assuming that only one Symantec product installed on the system.

No other ideas. Good luck with it.

If you can't fix it post again and maybe someone else will notice.
Suggest you include "Symantec" in the Subject.
