My previous post:

Last night I posted popups don't work.

Actually Javascript doesn't work. I went to tools-->security-->custom,
and made sure everything was enabled under scripting.

The error, when I click on the error symbol looks like this.

Line 133
Char 2
Error: The callee (server(not server application)) is not available and
disappeared; all connections are invalid. The call did not execute.

Solution:

Got rid of some scumware--did not fix.
Tried uninstalling ie update--did not fix.
Did NOT run LSPFIX. Posted my Highjack This log and they said there
were no broken/missing entries in the stack and I should not do it.

The fix:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=281679

The registration keys listed were OK, but evidently, one (or more) of
the .dll's were improperly registered--had to go through them all.

Don't know how this happened, but I'm now getting pop-ups all over the
place. (I think I'm happy).

Jim.

Thanks SO MUCh for pointing me to that fix! I have been
having java problems for some time and couldnt figure
anything out and those dll reregisters worked...

I still have two problems tho

1) AOL mail on the web does not let me read.. it brings a
blank window up

2) I get question marks (?) in place of bullets on some
websites.. and in strange palces in place if (r) marks
etc...

Anyideas anyone?

(contains instructions to re-register various dlls, principally urlmon.dll)

That should only be necessary if your OS is XP
(which you didn't bother disclosing.)

Any other OS should be able to do an IE Repair:

rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE6Maintenance

The only modules then which the article lists might have
to be re-registered manually are: msjava.dll and shell32.dll
Meanwhile, all the others and many more would have been
re-registered much more completely and more safely.

Using W98 SE. Not an expert, so I can't answer Mike's question. I just
followed what it said to do in the cited article. What tipped me off
when I read the article, was that I could not right click on a link and
have it open in a new window.

Thanks again
