Fix WinXP TCP\IP stack?

I'm having a problem with the TCP\IP networking on my laptop. I've
ruled out a cable problem, a router problem, or a hardware problem
like the NIC (I've tried a card that works in another laptop). Seems
like the only thing left is something is hosed with the WinXP TCP\IP
stack (software). TCP\IP does not work but I got NetBEUI (Windows
File Sharing) to work intermittently.

Not coincidentally (IMO) the last piece of software I installed was
eTrust EZ Armor a few days ago which included a rebranded version of
ZoneAlarm. It seemed to work fine on the first reboot, but it is the
only thing that has changed recently that would be remotely related to
this. The last time I had it on about 2 days ago, it was accessing
the Internet just fine. I attempted to uninstall it tonight and the
firewall seemed to uninstall OK, but had there were problems with the
virus scanning piece which didn't get uninstalled properly. Needless
to say this cast more suspicion on eTrust EZ Armor. I don't see
anything helpful on their website for this issue.

I don't see any particularly strange services or processes still
running that might interfere with things. I am wondering if possibly
this firewall hosed up the TCP/IP stack by inserting it's own piece
which possibly got fouled up somehow. In any case, I am wondering
which pieces (files) make up the stack and how I can verify that they
are the ones from Microsoft and if not how to fix it?

I appreciate any other ideas on what the problem could be.

Thanks, but I fixed the problem by using System Restore and went back
to a restore point the day before I installed the software. I
appreciate the feedback, though.
