fix column widths

Tami

some times if you key a number and its bigger than the column width, the
column with adjusts automatically and gets wider....i would rather it not
automatically adjust as chances are if they keyed a number that big, it is an
error.
how can i prevent it from automatically widening?

If you manually fit the column width, then excel will respect that. Then if you
type in a number that doesn't fit in that width, you'll see ####'s.

Another option would be to format the cell to reduce the size of the font to
make sure it fits the column width.

In xl2003 menus:
format|cells|alignment tab|check shrink to fit

If they can type in an error value, use data validation to check for it and
stop it on input.
