Firmware upgrade failure and WMP10

Hi,
I'm having a bit of a fraught time with the firmware upgrade of a MP3
Player from a well known company. The original firmware upgrade
instructions specified suitability for WinXP SP2 with the proviso that
Windows Media Player 10 was Installed on the host computer. When I
updated from within the existing WMP 9 version, it went straight up to
11. :)
I gambled on the hope that what was required in WMP 10 would also be
available in 11 but it seems not.
The firmware upgrade froze and failed and attempts to reload the
firmware are blocked by the player now being unrecognized. I went
through the several steps to uninstall WMP 11 and got back to WMP 9.

Support from the MP3 player company are now telling me to try the
firmware install again with WMP 10 in place but when I download and
try to install it, I get a message that WMP 10 is incompatible with my
operating system.
I went back to the MS site and found a compatibility chart which shows
that WMP 10 will work on WinXP SP1 but not on the SP2 version. SP2 is
only shown to be compatible with WMP 9 or 11.

I'm one of many people having this same problem with this MP3 Player.
Numerous accounts of WMP 11 needing to be uninstalled are told on the
Web forum. Support it seems have continued for some time to instruct
people to install WMP 10 in order to overcome the problem. Can someone
please clarify the situation as to the compatibility of WMP 10 with
WinXP SP2?

Regards,
Mike

I had WMP10 running on XP SP2 for a long time, only recently moved to 11.

Thanks, that was encouraging. All it took was a reinstall of WinXP, a
clone fortunately. Hardly any more long winded than my OP. :)

Mike
