Firewire DVD Writer not working under XP

Torsten

I just bought an external NEC ND-1300 DVD writer with USB2
and Firewire/1394 interface. Since my Fujitsu-Siemens
Amilo D laptop only supports USB1.1, I want to run this
over the firewire interface. The following problems appear:
- the writer is recognized by Explorer, but not by media
player
- some tools do not show the writer at all
- Nero frequently hangs with the writer
- copying audio CDs is entirely impossible, although
writing data CDs and DVDs works
- over USB1.1 everything works fine, but slow

Is there maybe an updated 1394 driver available for XP?

Thanks,
Torsten

I have the 1100A and did not have much luck with Nero. Downloaded the trial
for Roxio 6 and it worked right away. Needless to say, I've switched over
to the paid version of Roxio.

The 1100A is an internal drive so the above may not be helpful to you if
the problem is firewire/usb driver related. For what it's worth, I have an
external firewire DVD\CDR-RW on the tablet PC that works fine with XPSP1.
No extra drivers were required.

10 days ago I swiched from W2K to XP.
After that I had a lot of troubles with my 5 firewire HDD. Like: Disk
get lost, RPC errors, CHKDSK failes. Backup crashed etc. Dozens of
restarts and an overflowing eventlog (System) with many crosses. BTW
some ot the probleme I had before also with W2K.

Then I got the tip that Norton Anivirus 2003 could be the cause of all
this troubles.
I threw Norton out and see - touch wood - the troubles were gone.
I have not a single enty in the eventlog (system) since.
It looks like Norton is not compatible with XP and/or Firewire.
Could it be that it conflicts with RPC?
I replaced it with the German GData Antivirenkit 12
WWW.GData.de

I would like to get reactions.
Kurt
