Firewire capture

Steve

I have just started capturing video from my new camcorder
using WMM2. Using USB streaming at its highest setting the
video does not look to bad when pumped out to my TV using
a 64MB graphics card with TV out. I just put in a Firewire
card to capture the digital signal at its highest quality.
Does anyone know how on earth this video can be compressed
down to fit a substantial length onto a DVD? It imports at
178MB per minute!! At that rate you'd never get more than
25 minutes onto a DVD and that's without any
transitions, etc. To ne it seems that capturing at such a
high quality doesn't get you much to work with if the only
thing you can do is keep it on your PC or put an edited
movie back to a tape.

Thanks,
Steve

Steve,

DV-AVI is used for the editing process, when you want all that quality from
the big file. When it's time to burn a DVD, you'll be compressing the
finished movies to MPEG2 formats (with other software than MM2), and an hour
of high quality video will fit on a disc.

www.DVDRHelp.com is a good reference

PapaJohn,
Thanks for the quick response. The DVD burner is the next
purchase, although I think I have time to wait until they
are a little cheaper. Any recommendations on software for
burning DVDs? I know of Roxio and Nero.
Thanks again,
Steve

Steve,

Your new burner will come with some software, so that'll be the one to start
with.... See the DVD Software section of www.papajohn.org for comments from
others about software that's been mentioned in posts.

I haven't used enough DVD software to have any personal recommendations. The
Sonic MyDVD app that came with my laptop/burner works fine for my needs.
