Firewire adapter install help

I had posted this question earlier and never got a response. As I'm still in
desperate need of help, I thought I would try again and see if there are any
new readers that might be able to help me. Thanks.

I have a P4 3Ghz desktop with a Gigabyte 8S661FXM motherboard. I'm attempting
to add a USB2.0/IEEE1394 combo card (VIA chipset)to any one of three
available PCI ports. After the card is installed, Windows XP does not
recognize it as a IEEE1394 adapter so it doesn't install the driver for it. I
get a message that the installation of the new hardware has failed. Then for
some reason the "on board" ethernet NIC does not work anymore.(no internet
access) I checked the Device Manager list and the NIC does show up under
Network Adapters, but it is now listed as a hidden device and it says that no
drivers are installed for it. Under Other Devices, Ethernet Controller is
listed with a Yellow question mark after it. Under Universal Serial Bus
Controller there are now some new USB entries that also have a yellow
question mark beside them.

I have tried installing this card in all three PCI ports and I tried
disableing the On Board Ethernet port in the BIOS, but it still won't install
properly.

Is there some other settings on this motherboard that I need to change to
install this card? Anything else I need do to? Help!!!!!!

Thanks....

Exchange the card.

I bought it new from Ebay, so I can't return it. After further reading, It
seems that the VIA chipset it uses and windows XP don't get along. Anyone
heard of this or know a work around?
