Firewalls

Can you have 2 firewalls running at the same time? For
instance, the firewall that comes with XP and Norton
Internet Security firewall, or, will they conflict with
each other?? Thanx......Patty

You can run two firewalls, they are basically just on/off
switches. But why not run just one good one. A firewall
that monitors both in and out going traffic and logs
activity would be better tan XP's ICF.

I use ZA free. I have run both ZA and McAfee's (version 6)
firewall at same time and had no problems, but I don't use
the McAfee firewall because I preferred the ZA GUI.

To avoid possible conflicts and error messages, only enable one (1)
firewall program. If you use Norton Internet Security, then disable
Windows XP's built-in firewall.

Hi

You can run two firewalls at the same, but there 'maybe' conflicts between the two.

Yes you can have two running at once, but *should* you? You're
going to get differing points of view. Some people will tell you
that they may conflict with each other. Others will tell you they
have been doing it and have had no conflicts.

Here's my view. There is no advantage to running two firewalls.
the poorer one doesn't do anything extra that the better one
doesn't do. Running two programs instead of one uses extra CPU
cycles, and hurts performance (even if only slightly), and when
you have two programs doing the same thing, there is always the
possibility of conflicts (even for those who have so far never
had a conflict). Choose the better firewall (in your example,
choose Norton) and run only that one.
