I cannot turn on my Windows firewall.I have tried and get a message as
follows:- an unexpected error has occurred & Windows cannot disply firewall
settings.
This has only happened since I was infected with Trojan Horse virus,in fact
IT turned the firewall off.

Is ther anyway that I can rectify this?????????

If your system has already been compromised, I would recommend uninstalling
and reinstalling the software -- AFTER making absolutely certain that no
other malware remnants remain.

You can perform a series of scans using online scanners from the Internet
Security page in my sig.

Hi Ted,
It would make sense for a Trojan to shut down your firewall, since it can
then "phone home" without being blocked

That said, if you know the name of the Trojan, Symantec or McAfee usually
has instructions to manually delete the offending malware. Most times you
will have to turn off "System Restore" while you work, so the Trojan is not
copied back into your system after you are done.
If you don't know the name, update your antivirus program to the latest
definitions, and them run a full scan.
You can also download the MS Malicious Spyware Remover which was in
yesterdays Windows Updates, and run it. That may do the trick.

Removing the Trojan may make your default firewall active again, or you may
have to reinstall it. Hope that is helpful.
