Running XPSP2 on desktop and Windows Media on my notebook. Both firewalls
state they are being controlled by group policy. What is this and now do I
get controll of my firewall back. I am the admimnistrator on both systems
and have never put anything in group policy.

Do you have another 3rd party firewall installed, such as Windows OneCare,
or other program. These will often disable the built-in firewall, if you
opt to use their 3rd party firewall.

"Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy\StandardProfile]
"EnableFirewall"=dword:00000001
"DoNotAllowExceptions"=dword:00000000"

I once had Windows Onecare on my desktop but removed it. Also removed all
spyware/virus etc software and fiirewall was still under group policy. I
feel confident enough I can go to registry and try and reset the firewall but
would like detailed instructions to do it so I don't screw up the comuter.
By the way what is group policy and how did group policy control my computer?
