WHICH GAME?

What kind of computer? (Make/Model or Specs)

Which version of Vista?

Internet connection provider? (Comsuck, AT&P, AOHell)

Internet connection type? (Cable/DSL)

I have tried to log onto online gaming services for months without success. I
can go anywhere on the Internet with no problem but if I try to get on a
online game it just sits there and will not connect. It usually just times
out and says things like no connection made etc. I could connect with my dial
up but after going to DSL I never could connnect again. My DSL provider said
they don't know why. Go figure.

is your windows OS updated?
have you installed the "windows genuine advantage validation tool?"
if not, try allowing that pice of, uhh, software and see what happens!

I have everything updated and have even tried connecting with all security
shut down and still get the same results. I tried once, on a different
computer, to connect after a total fresh install of Vista. Still, the
connection couldn't be made. I have to wonder if the modem my dsl provider
sent me is blocking it somehow. Otherwise, I'm out of ideas.

PCTools Internet Security Suite but it doesn't matter as I've had this
problem even without any security programs even installed on the computer.

Okay, but that is probably what is blocking it currently. Listen to the
title of the program. It is there to keep things from going into and out of
your computer. Honestly, once you check on it it is probably just a small
adjustment you need to tell that program to "allow" what it is blocking and
everything will be fine.

Tried that. Also had the problem with Spysweeper with AV, Windows One Care
you name it. Like I said, shutting down or even removing the security
programs doesn't help. Even running a clean install of Vista with NO
anti-virus or anti-spyware running on the computer didn't help. The problem
wasn't there when I had dial up but started after I got dsl. So I have to
believe that has something to do with it but when I asked my provider about
it they said they didn't know why it was happening. Nobody seems to have any
answers and I've run out of things to try.

It does sound like the DNS server your Internet Service Provider is using
could be a little off whack. If you can find out the IP address of the web
site you can't access and try going there using the numbers instead of the
name, you could see if that works. If it does, it is the ISP's DNS server
and nothing on your computer. You could call your ISP and ask them to try
from their end (although their path is probably different), and ask the tech
for the IP address when they trace the route to the web site from their end.

Dont know what kind of dsl setup u have - modem, router or modem/router combo
unit like i have from att dsl,but every router i know of & have owned also
have firewalls in them. It is often necessary to open up ports in the router
to allow internet play, but if ur ISP is worth a darn they should be able to
assist u with that.

My friends & i do online gaming bout every day & are always having to
configure crap for the majority of games that come out. Sometimes its
nothing more than a bad router in ur ISP's routing to ur pc. That can play
hell with data transfer, which is what its all about.
