FIRE-BLADE - AGP 8x - Voltage confusion - Rebooting issue under *EXTREME* load!

Hi,

I am trying to solve a *rebooting* issue that happens if I leave this
computer running a 3D-Graphic loop. In the process of trouble-shooting this
problem I need more information about AGP Voltages, i.e: the one that gets
set in BIOS.

These are the specs of the machine I am working on:
--
*SOUL-RIPPER*
AN7 rev1.0 (BIOS 13)
T-Bred XP2400+ (AIUHB)
512MB (Single Stick) Crucial PC3200 (CT6464Z40B)
Sapphire Radeon 9600XT (FireBlade Edition)
Western Digital S.E 120GB SATA (7,200rpm - 8MB)
LITE-ON 52x32x52 Burner
LITE-ON 16x DVD
ANTEC SX835 II
ANTEC 350w Smart-Power (Dual Fan)
4 x 80mm Case fans
WinXP SP/1
DX 9.0b
nVidia Drivers (CD)
Cat 3.10 (CD)

Leaving the voltages on *AUTO* in BIOS says 1.55v and actually give me 1.6v
to the AGP. . .could this cause a problem possibly? like a reboot?. I
thought AGP voltages were like this:

0.8v (required for 8x AGP)

1.5v (required for 4x AGP)

I have the BIOS set also to *AGP 8x* rather than AUTO.

Any feedback. . .This system is Prime95 - Memtest stable. . .

I have a similar setup to yours and was experiencing a similar problem,
system hang or re-boot when running some 3D apps. I have a Radeon 9700pro
and I solved my problem by setting to AGP speed to 4x in SmartGart, left
BIOS seting at AUTO. Adjusting the AGP voltage did not solve the problem by
the way.

Not sure whether it's a NVidia or ATI driver issue (Windows said it was a
graphic card driver issue), but there is a negligible difference between the
8x or 4x setting anyway.

Hi,
thanks for reply. Ok I heard a little about AGP 8x-4x switch thing. Should
I do this is BIOS or SmartGART or *BOTH*?. I can set AUTO-8x-4x in BIOS,
and I have it now on 8x. Also the SmartGART is on 8x.

Rebooting PCs give me the willies!

Hi Wayne

Leave AGP setting as AUTO in the BIOS and set AGP to 4x using SmartGart.
Hope this works for you.
