finding lost programs

had major probs pc went into restore mode - restore to factory conditions
and would not allow partial restore so lost all programs/files etc. Can I
recover lost programs

it's unclear if you
did a windows system restore

or

a restoration to factory conditions
with back up disks

however, in any event if
you resetted all your system files
to square one, then it severed all
links to software installed afterwards.

this might be a good thing since
you discovered

1) something went wrong with a installed/unwanted/incompatiable
software

and

2) if you make sure and/or manually make
system restore points before installing
software you will have a little insurance if
something goes wrong

while this issue is still fresh for you
do some research with creating complete
harddrive/disk backups. I highly recommend
disk imaging whtich copies everthing to
a set of cd's rather than the old/standard
backup which compresses everything into
one large file,eg backup file.

look into driveimage xml. later if
you have a new question about backups
create a new post/thread on this particular
subject......

you need to reinstall them from your CD...
they certainly are not on the hD any longer

If they're gone they're gone. Many restore modes wipe the HD in the
process.

Right. And even if the programs were still there, they wouldn't be usable if
Windows had been reinstalled.
