Final Fintasy XI

Got all excited about Vista, went down to store and picked up my copy of
Ultimate Edition. Installed it and proceeded to install Final Fantasy XI.
Much to my shock and dismay, it doesn't work. Is this an issue with the game
or an issue with Vista? Is there some sort of work around or patch i can
install? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

More than likely it is a driver issue. Neither ATI or nVidia have released
full featured drivers for Vista yet.

You're not alone!!! only your being much kinder with your choice of words
like "dismay" then what went thru my mind. Honestly, FFXI is what I spend
90% of my computer time on. It's why I've upgraded my pc and why I purchased
Vista in the first place.... So if my game won't install, then why bother?
Feel I've wasted 200 bucks for something I can just play frisbee with. At
least It would give me something to do in the meantime. They have known about
this installation issue since June, with the beta addition.. why didn't
anyone address this problem?

Its a Play Online issue. They aren't Vista compliant. I just checked the
Playonline website.

Go to www.windower.net. Then go to their forums and do a search on Vista.
There will be a post in there with instructions for making PoL work on
Vista. However, you will need to copy an updated PoL folder from somewhere.
Hope this helps.

Shasui I totally agree with you, but SE is making an effort in testing the
vista and trying to fix the compatibility issues that the new OS has risen.
Currently the only way to make it work is to like another poster has said
already. You must make 2 partitions and install XP on the first one. Once
your up and running install POL, FFXI, and all expansions on to the second
partition and update the game and client completely. Now install Vista, but
when you get to the drive screen select the "Advanced Drive Options" and
format only the disk 1 partition. Install Vista on to it. When vista is
installed navigate to the PlayOnline installation and double click POL.exe
you will get a corruption error and need to check the files. So check every
program listed.

After all that it should run. I had several issues with it in Vista when I
played FFXI, and I am praying I won't have these issues in WoW.

Good Luck to you
