Filesharing problem with XP. Weird one.

Hi!

Ok, I have a weird problem that bugs me to bits.
Heres the deal: Three computers (named 1,2 and 3 here) in a NAT home
network. I am sharing files between the computers.

Computers 1 and 2 have no problem, but for some reason I cant share
folders on the harddrives on 3 (But sharing the CD-player on 3
works...) I can access the shared folders on 1 and 2 from 3 though.
When I try to access shared hdd folders on 3 (I can see them from all
other computers), I get an error message that translates as (I have
swedish version, if anyone can help me with the exact text on english
Xp, I would greatly appreciate it!) "\\Desktop\docs is not available.
You might not have permission to use this share. Ask the server
administrator for help. There was not enough room on the server to
perform this command"
Both the HDDs have plenty empty space. I know that permissions are set
correctly (since I've configured the network exactly the same way on
all three computers, and the others work, and since I use simple
fileshare.)

I have a home network that access Internet through a Dlink DI-624 (EU
version, latest firmware) The OS on two of the computer is XP Prof, on
one (laptop) XP Home. The laptop is wireless. The proble occurs both
with Firewalls (Norton and ZoneAlarm) turned on and off.

In short: One computer can't share folders on the harddrives, but
sharing CD-player works. Error message talks about "not enough room on
the server"

I need help. Badly!

Are you possibly set up for simple file sharing on the #3 machine and not on the other two. I have found this to cause similar access problems to what you describe. Check tools\folder options, choose the view tab and go to the bottom of the list and see how you are configured.

If it is not the same on all the machines I would get them in sync and see if that fixes the problem.

Nope, I have same settings on all computers. I tried a "restore
standard settings" under tools/folder to get them positivly all same.

Im beginning to think this might be some sort of network browsing
error. Whats with the "not enough space" issue? Might there be some
kind of network cache that has problems remembering paths or
something?

PROBLEM SOLVED!

It was Norton Antivirus that did some fiddeling with the register:

Heres the answer if anyone else gets the same problem
(e.g "Not enough server storage is available to process this command")

http://www.michna.com/kb/WxNotEnoughServerStorage.htm

and heres the article that led me to the answer:

There is nothing as rewarding as solving weird problems you've fought
with a long time!
