Files that may be removed safely

I have been very pleased with Windows 2000 that was
installed on a new computer ( I chose 2000 over XP).

The system has been saving personal settings and shutting
down at a slower and slower pace. It has gotten to the
point where I have tried to explore what might be the
problem. I think the Temp file may have a bearing on it. I
have used Clean Sweep without success.

Under WINNT - the Temp file is empty.

But under Local Settings, there is a Temp folder has many
files that are not erased with Clean Sweep: tmp, log, dll,
cab, cfo, cfg, txt, htm, dat., mtx, ini., prt, bak, and so
forth.

In Local Settings there is also an Application Data folder
with log extensions (carm1.log; carm2.log, etc.).

If someone could enlighten me as to whether these files in
the Local Settings Temp and Application Data folders may
be deleted safely - I would appreciate the help.

With no applications and or installs running and after restart, you can
delete the files in;
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temp
directory.
