Files not visible on hard drive

I have 2 hard drives; the main one is C and the 2nd drive is F. The F
drive shows that there is 5.8 gb of used space, and 146 gb of free
space, yet when I open the F drive in My Computer, it only shows a
single 5 mb file. I tried "arrange icons by type" but there is still
only the 1 file.

Any suggestions as to how I can retrieve the other files? I know they
are there; I just can't access them. Thanks.

in Control Panel, on the View Tab of Folder Options, look for a radio
button that says "Show Hidden Files and Folders", and click it.

I can't guarantee this will uncover the other 5875 MB, but it's a start.

I also like to uncheck the boxes labeled
Hide Extensions for Known File Types (so I can better see if a file is
using multiple file types to masquerade as a different file type), and
Use Simple File Sharing (so I have more control over Folder Security,
and not inadvertently open up my files to be shared by the wild wild web).

I think that Use Simple File Sharing is a feature of XP only.

Thanks for the reply. I already tried deactivating the "show hidden
files and folders", but still have the problem.

BTW, I am running SP2 on WinXP Home.

The only recent change is that I downloaded the recent Windows Security
updates. I'm thinking this could have caused the problem?
