Filename Format Viewed From iMac

Absolutely

I recently connected my iMac to my Win2k server and something odd is
happening, or odd to me anyway. Some filenames are complete and others are
being converted to 8.3 format. The majority of the files in question are
MP3 files.

This sounds like you're connecting to a server running File Services for
Macintosh, which supports file names up to 31 characters long. The 8.3
names appear because those files are longer than 31 characters.

File Services for Macintosh is and old and discontinued part of Windows
Server. I suggest you consider a third party application for your Macs
such as Dave from <http://www.thursby.com> or if you have quite a few
Macs then look into ExtremeZ-IP from <http://www.grouplogic.com>.

Hope this helps!
