File Types Default Action

I've searched and searched the net and frankly I'm stumped on this one.
The problem is with the File Types setting (when you open the Folder
Options, File Types tab). For the file type(s) of Drive, Folder, and
File folder, somehow the default action has been set to open with
explorer.exe. This works fine except for the annoying thing that every
folder you open it starts a new instance of windows explorer with that
folder. So to browse 5 folders deep it opens a new window each time.
I've looked at other XP settings for these file types and they have no
default option. I just can't find a way to return it to the original
method.

So far I've tried resetting folder options to the default, creating a
new action and deleting it (hoping it would set nothing/the original to
default), attempting a system restore, and digging thru the registry.
Since this is dealing with the explorer I'm kinda cautious to just
start messing with the registry.

I'm thinking that my only option is to repair/reinstall XP, but would
really like to avoid this option if at all possible.

Thanks in advance for your help-

Matt

Click Start, Run and type this command:

regsvr32 /i shell32.dll
(Tip from David Candy)

Or try the...

Read the instructions.

Or try this, ignore the title, this should set the defaults.

So I was able to dig a bit deeper in the registry and found the right
keys to fix. I just copied the settings from another XP machine for the
Drive and the Folder keys under \HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\Shell and
\Folder\Shell... So unfortunately I was unable to use your utils but
thanks for the quick reply.
Cheers-
