File sharing on PCs connecting to web on linksys router

Our PCs at home all go through a Linksys router which connects to the cable
modem (and also acts as a hardware firewall). I'd like to be able to share
files and a printer between the PCs. One is Win XP, the other Win ME. We used
to have a Win2K computer that was able to see the other PCs.
I tried setting up home networking but this doesn't seem to do the trick.
Does anyone have some ideas on this?

Run XP's Network Setup Wizard on each computer -- it will make all the
right settings. If the Wizard detects the router's shared Internet
connection, tell it to use that. If it doesn't, tell it that the
computers connect to the Internet through a residential gateway.

Thanks for the suggestion. I went through this process an additional time.
This wizard does not seem to detect the router's shared internet connection,
so I took care to select the "computers connect to the Internet through a
residual gateway" on both the Win XP and the Win ME computer.

On the Win ME computer, the PC sees itself as one of the computers in the
"HOME" workgroup (the name I chose for both PCs). On the Win XP the program
complains that "You might not have permission to use this network resource.
Contact the adminstrator...The list of servers for this workgroup is not
currenly available."

Earlier when I was trying this, I could ping the Win ME computer from the
Win XP computer, but could not ping the Win XP from the Win ME box. Both are

on this side of the router with IPs in the range 192.168.1.x

Make sure that any firewall program (Norton, McAfee, ZoneAlarm,
PCCillin, etc) is configured to allow access on the local area
network.

If you have XP Service Pack 2 and are using the Windows Firewall,
enable the exception for File and Printer Sharing.

If you have an earlier version of XP, disable the Internet Connection
Firewall.

Try accessing the other computer by typing its name in the Start | Run
box in this format:

\\computer
