File security..

Our office mostly uses Windows XP, some are on Windows 2000. We have a
folder of pictures on a network drive. We right clicked the folder and set
security permissions so you couldn't overwrite files in there by accident.

I took the security off temporarily so I could edit and save something, but
when I put it back on I put the wrong permissions. Now nobody can get in
that folder at all. It says only the original owner can.

Is there anything I can do without going to the original owner? I think I
know who the person is, but she will not be happy if I am to come to her.

You didn't mention what operating system is on the host network drive
but in both XP and Win2k you can take ownership of the files/folder.

If you are logged on as an administrator you can take ownership
[properties/security - advanced/owner being sure to select replace owner on
subcontainers] and then grant yourself full control permissions and then you
can set permissions again to what is needed.

Sorry, the files are stored on a network drive on a Windows 2003 SBS.

I tried disabling simple sharing or whatever then going to the security tab
to set me as owner, but there is no security tab.. I'm guessing because it's
Windows 2003 SBS.

I would just hate to goto this person and not have it work there either..
because it would cost us money if we had to call our network admin. He's
just a consultant we hired to do everything when we upgraded the server.

Thanks for the help guys, luck is on my side today.

It's the Indian New Year right now.. Diwali. Middle-eastern Indian that is.
Well, they wanted to send out a "Happy Diwali!" email with some pictures .
They wanted me to show them how to do an email in HTML with the pictures and
text formatted and what not. We had to send it from the Operations Managers
email account, so I had to use her computer.

:) She was the one who created the folder I accidentally locked.
