File permissions- FP & XP?

Susan

Got XP pro and FP2002. I am trying to publish web from
CD to PC but get error:
"Server error: The server Extensions were unable to
access the file D:filename\_vti_pvt|service.Ick Please
check the file permissions"

I have deleted the Service.Ick file according to kb297322
but it did not help. It also mentions IIS permissions but
the Windows options don't seem to jive with what I have
so I assume I don't have IIS 5.0 or IIS 4.0. I have
tried to use Windows Explorer to go to file properties
but I only find General or Sharing tab and no Security
tab for permissions for Group or User names. What do I
need to do?

Thanks and Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays!

1. you need to copy the web from the CD
to a location on your hard drive.
2. you need to remove the "read only" settings
from all of the files, as they are set to read only
when you burn to a CD.
3. Then you can open in FP and "publish"

There is a utility named "Remover" written
by Steve Seymour that you can use to change the
attributes. I have a copy if you need it.

Thank you very much. I don't have utility
called "Remover" but it sounds very useful.
I am in the midst of trying to copy web on CD to Hd but
having problems with certain pictures. Unfortunately the
pictures are old and not needed but cannot delete from CD
since CD is read only. So far I have found that CD's are
a pain to work with. I can copy things to CDs for
backups and then try to open the files and it just hangs.
I have found that certain brands of CD's cause problems.

It's best to consider CD's as nothing more
than a storage or transfer medium as far
as webs are concerned, as FrontPage won't
open a CD based web.
You have to copy the entire web to a folder
on the machine, change the file attributes and then
open it in FrontPage.

I couldn't find a link for you to download remover,
so I zipped a copy and sent it via e-mail.
It should be there.
