File Open, images, without thumbnails (just list or details)

Some (halfblind) want thumbnails in the File Open shell from within
programs running on WindowsXP, but many possibly just want the same
list- or detailsview from Windows Explorer.
The sort of view they forced via File Options --> all files same
(nonthumbnailish) view.

In short:
How come 'File Open' standardly always returns thumbnails when an
images-folder is selected ?

I know I kan push the button on top of the File-Open-shell in order to
change this to 'list' or 'details'.
But it seems to be impossible to make this type of view permanent.

There must exist a registry-hack ?

There is no registry hack, afaik. The view options in common dialogs cannot
be customized (permanently). Only the sort order can be customized.

A program like Irfanview does do it.
When you open the "Open File"-dialog you can select "details" (not
"list").
Then you close this dialog with the x-button.
Every next time you open an image-folder with Irfanview, the
image-folders and files are displayed with names and details instead of
with thumbs.
Helas this setting is not forced in other programs.

I think the solution is not to place images in My Documents\My Images
(does it say that in English ?) but in any other selfcreated folder (in
My Documents or elsewhere).
That way every program's Open-File-dialog each time does display
image-files and -folders as list or details.

That is to say ...
This won't work with My Documents\My Images either.
Just don't put image-files in that folder if you want to see them as
"list" or "details" in an "Open File" or other common dialog (see my
other comment).

I'll stop nagging about this now.

As long as the FolderType is detected as "Pictures" or "MyPictures" folder,
the view setting will change to Thumbnail.

That I didn't think about that sooner !
