File not found

Hello out there. One day I clicked something I wasn't aware of (too easy to
do with a tablet) and now, every time I open ANY Excel file it comes up with
Microsoft Visual Basic - File not found. It's definitely not because of a
missing linked file, because it even happens when I open Excel from the Start
Menu. Any other subsequent files that are opened do not give this message.

I noticed afterwards that in the folder that contains PERSONAL.XLS there was
a new file with a generic Icon on it (Windows doesn't know how to open it).
The file name is AB3EF600. I'm guessing that my slip of the tablet pen
(somewhere in the top right corner) has done something to remove this file
from wherever it should be (wherever that is!). How do I find out what sort
if file it is and where it belongs?

Does anyone have any ideas please?

I would venture a guess that you copied the file rather than moved it,
because you are not seeing any other problems with your computer (or are
you?). I suggest that you move the file to some folder for safe keeping
just in case you do run into some problem involving the absence of that file
from wherever it came from.
I would also do a search of your hard drive for that file name. HTH Otto

Hi Otto, thanks for that. I have actually opened the file in question in
Notepad and it has many procedure names of macros that I have written in it,
so it's probably code. With that in mind I removed the file from Application
Data/Microsoft/Excel/XLSTART into a safe place, and........that solved the
problem! Must be something to do with "I can see something ther in XLSTART,
dunno what it is so I'm going to throw up an error". Thanks and regards,
Brett.
