File may have changed...

We have noticed this problem on a handful of our computers:

After opening an excel file and making changes, using the "Save" button on
the toolbar results in the following dialog box:

The file <filename> may have been changed by another user since you last
saved it. In that case, what do you want to do?
Save a copy
Overwrite changes

This is happening when the only person who has opened the file is the
current user. If you try to close the file instead of using "Save", the
normal "Do you want to save" dialog box comes up. The one thing that these
computers in question have in common is that they were all upgraded to Win XP
SP2.

file to 1. a drive 2. c drive 3. flash dirve. (double
backup). but when i go back the file on the c drive, it
wasn't same with the changes. I then have to same the copy
on the flash drive back to the c drive.
I have notice a lot of uses noteing odd thing with xp
perticulally after installing SP2.
I am suggesting that all odd things with xp be reported
directicly to Microsoft.
