file keeps opening, how to stop

I think this is a setting issue rather than a printer issue so posted on
here.

eg when I open my external hard drive the programme to `set up printer hp
1310` starts to run for a set up and then the hp alert box dissapears.
when I switch the printer on the same happens.

It never done this until recently and the only other programme I installed
was a trial was for doing PFD files which I later uninstalled.
That is the only change I can think of since this started.

In fact the printer I have is an hp 1317 although as it has been installed
for over a couple of years it could well be the same drivers as the 1310.
(which may have been my previous one)

Any thoughts on how to stop this?

thank you.

Some PDF maker software configures itself as a pseudoprinter; you
can inspect for this via / Start / Printers.

Whenever in doubt about printer drivers, it usually pays to download the
latest available for your printer and OS, then to complete the instal
process
in the standard way (so no leftover parts attempt to rerun the setup later.)

Are you still plugged into the same port for the printer. I have noticed
that some devices when I plug them in to a different USB port will load
the drivers again. I have had that happen with a couple of Dell printers
and a few Canon scanners. I just let it finish the install process and
then it doesn't bug me anymore . . . unless of course I plug it into yet
again another different USB port.
