File DSN won't work

I am currently setting up a database with a bunch of Excel reports from it. I
have to set this up on my own network and then transfer it to another network
(for our sister company).

It was suggested that i set up a file dsn on my network to the database etc
and then when it needs to be moved, view the dsn with notepad and change the
path.

I have come to do this and i have changed the path (it is definitely
correct) and now when i try to refresh the Excel reports OR set up a new one,
it tells me that the workgroup information file is missing or opened
exclusively by someone else. I have checked the security file is there and is
set to 'shared' mode, no one else has it open (this is definite), all the
paths and names are spelt correctly.

Next i tried to reconfigure it using the ODBC administrator, this all works
find until you try to save the changes and then it errors out.

I tried to create a new ODBC with the correct details using same name and
save it over the one that does not work and still i get the same 'missing
workgroup' message.

I'm at my wits end here, once an ODBC has been set up is there no way of
amending it to reflect a different path.

Once it is on a machine connected to the other network, and other
database, use tools, database utilities, linked table manager. Select
all, and check the box marked always prompt for new location. that
should solve the problem.
