file attributes & saving attachments

When I save an attachment of a certain file type on my laptop, it saves as a
read-only file. When saved on my desktop, it does not do this. How can I
change the settings so that it does not save as "read-only." I use Outlook
2000 and the files are .afm and .afd file types. Thanks!

How are you saving them?

In my Outlook 2000, it only lets me double-click the file attachment from the
reading pane and I select "save this file to disk" and put it on my desktop.
I have never paid attention to how I save it when I actually open the email
in a new window. I will have to let you know on that.

When I open the email in a new window, I can right click and select "save
as.." on the attachment. In the reading pane I can only double-click the
attachment and select "save this file to disk". Either way, I save it to my
desktop.

I'm guessing because OL 2000 is so old, but perhaps when saved from the
Reading Pane, it will be read-only, but when saved from an open message,
it's writable.
