File association

Hello all -

I have created an HTML page to open on my local machine that is
nothing but a series of hyperlinks that point to individual DivX files
on another drive. Works like a charm, and makes it easy for my wife to
watch movies through the home theater. Only weird thing is the file
association. I have the ATI Multimedia Center as my default AVI player,
and when I double-click a file in Windows Explorer, that's what it
launches in. BUT when I click on a link on my HTML page (opened in IE6)
it launches the file in WMP. Is there something in IE6 perhaps that
ignores actual file associations in favor of MS products??

Right click on an AVI file in explorer. What option there is default
(bold)? It is likely Play. I believe IE uses the Open option when a
link is clicked. What happens when you right click on an AVI file and
select Open? If that uses WMP, then that confirms my suspicions. If
you want to change that, open Folder Options in the Control Panel and go
to the File Types tab. Scroll down in the list of registered file types
and select the AVI extension. With that selected click Advanced. There
you can modify the actions for Open, Play, and any others that you may
need to change.
