File association via registry

N

Nak

Hi there,

I'm trying to find out the name of the registry key that is used within
the associations stored in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT to store the application that
was previously associated. I remember seeing / using this in Windows XP but
I do not have any extensions that actually have this key, it was something
like, for example

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.bmp\Default = "Current association"
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.bmp\PreviousAssociation = "Previous association"

Or is this done a new way now? The reason I wish to know the exact name
of the key is so I can implement safe file association in an application of
mine, if anyone could let me know of this I would be greatly appreciative.
Thanks advance.

Nick.

Actually HKCR is a symbolic link to HKLM\Software\Classes
Also have a look in
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts
