File and Settings Transfer

I used the file and settings transfer wizard to backup my files to an
external hard drive, then reformatted the internal hard drive, reinstalled
Windows XP Home (with SP2, as was the case prior to backup), and tried to
restore my files.

The files clearly exist (all 32 GB of them) in individual .dat files, each
of which are 2.1GB, and sit in a single directory (USMT2.UNC). The files
begin with IMG0000A.dat through IMG0000E.dat, then begin again with
IMG00001.dat, IMG00002.dat, etc. until IMG00011.dat. Finally, there is a
STATUS file.

The program ran for a long time, 'organizing to receive the data', when I
received this error: ""An error occurred while the wizard was loading your
data.
The wizard cannot create the data needed to save your settings. Make sure
you have enough disk space available."

Initially, the files were stored on a 250GB hard drive (with 200GB free),
with FAT32 file system. After receiving the error, I copied the files to the
internal C Drive (with 100GB free, and NFTS file system), then tried again.
This was in response to a posting that suggested a file size limitation with
FAT32 might be the problem, but I received the same error message when
working off the internal C (NFTS) drive.

I'm fairly desperate for a solution at this point, as the 32GB includes most
of our family photos from the last few years. Feel naive for using this
utility, but trying to save myself from an (even more) painful learning
experience. Very much appreciate any help.

Thanks!

Within the "USMT2.UNC" folder, there should only
be two files.... a "IMG00001.DAT" file and a "status"
file. I don't know how you created the other .DAT files,
but the Transfer Wizard only works when you have one
"IMG00001.DAT" file (named "IMG00001.DAT") and
one file named "status" within the "USMT2.UNC" folder.

Perhaps your issue resulted in backing up the folder to
a hard drive formatted FAT32. You should be using
NTFS with a drive larger than 32GB.

Given the way that the program works, is there any way to collapse them into
a single file? Or is my best bet to try and run the conversion program
alluded to in the posting regarding corrupt files?
