Fields in a document that point to a database table

What is the best way of having certain fields in a document resolve upon
opening of the document. By resolve I mean replace themselves with actual
data from a database table. Ideally I would like to provide a parameter that
would identify the database table row and upon opening, the document would
replace all the fields with actual data.

I think that some sort of MailMerge would be easiest but I am not sure how I
can pass a parameter to the template in which the field(s) reside. I suppose
I need some way of calling the merge fields method from the AutoNew/AutoOpen
subs.
Thanks for your help

There's a Database field, and creating the link is very similar to setting up
mail merge. Assuming you have Word 2003 or earlier, look for the Insert
Database command on the Data toolbar.
