What does it mean when I release the ip address I get
FF.FF.FF.FF realtek 8139 onboard,I have to use pci
card and really need the slot it's takeing up.H/P wants
me to send it back in to them,but with scool starting,I
need it now.Any way to fix it?

Sounds like the NIC / firmware on the NIC is bad. If you can't get it
replaced right now, and a PCI card is unacceptable, you may want to go out
and buy a USB NIC. This will free up the PCI slot.

Give it a try,hope it don't slow the connection speed too
much.Should have taken my parents computer.Bought this
basic H/P to start out with,loaded everything I needed
for school.Needed a better graphics card,no AGP,had to
use PCI,With only 2 PCI,makes it hard to work with,do
have 2 extra USB though.Thanks for the help.Off to Comp

The nice man at Comp USA explained to me that I have a
USB port on my cable modem,pluged right in,just had to
load the driver for it.Both run at 2.1 Megs.Now just need
to switch out my PCI card.Thanks so much.Don't think i'll
be sending it back to H/P now
