Hi Guys,
So i have just been away for a few days with the kids (drinking too much cheap plonk in france) and i have only have a handful of hits on my jewellery site.
What do you advise as options to increase traffic that won't cost me a bomb??
As you know my site is small, I just want a few good browsers that will spread the word without annoying forum users by doing it that way.
Thanks
Jen

The easiest way is to make sure your site is listed in all of the search engines. Try adding your site to some of these places:

http://www.google.com/addurl/
http://docs.yahoo.com/info/suggest/
http://dmoz.org/add.html
http://www.altavista.com/addurl/default

It's not worth paying to get into search engines, as the above links do it for free. Although it may be worth paying to get onto the side bar of google for your chosen search words:

https://adwords.google.com/

It costs from about 5p per visitor if you pay using the latter option, but will yield more results (and faster). May be worth a shot if you are willing to try a few quid on it.

Auction something on E-Bay at a ridiculously cheap price with a 10 day auction fully highlighted so lots of people look at the item . Make sure that your listing contains lots of links to your website . Advertising to millions of suckers , sorry , discerning clients , for a few quid . :D

thanks Guys,

I will check out your links Ian and I was going to do some mobile phone charms for ebay for sports men (footballs, divers, skaters etc) so will keep the price low.

Keep going

Word of mouth is good. So get loads of little cards printed and hand them out , and dont forget Rome wasn`t built in a day so be patient and keep plugging your dream to everyone .....it will succeed if you really want it to ;)

Do not PAY to be listed ... do not give anything away for free, "bogof" does work though ... pester your Friends & Family, their friends & family etc.

Hold jewelry 'parties' at a family/friends house ... especially at this time of the year ... the host gets a % off what they buy (no freebies) ... BUT, make sure you have loads of cards with your website address to hand out.

Get anybody you know that have Internet access to visit your site ... it'll get noticed by the likes of googlebots even quicker if you can set-up a simple forum ... you will probably need a proper host & your own domain name to get a more international clientele.

Word of mouth recommendation's is worth a fortune ... but it takes time. ;)

Good Luck!

Thanks.

Thinking of going with developing my domain, based on all of your advice. Who do you suggest I use? I have only heard of Mr Site but believe that I should choose someone different than whom i have my domain name with?
The Ebay thing seems to be working for visitors anyway,
Cheers
