Feature Loss in Outlook 2003

After days and days of trying everything I can imagine I
am at my wits end. I recently upgraded from Outlook 2002
to Outlook 2003 and I think I lost some important
functionality. Normally I run Outlook in "Work Offline"
mode because I don't want to maintain a persistent VPN
connection to my Exchange server. I usually run in
Offline mode and I have an automatic sync setup to
poll/sync with my Exchange server using a VPN connection
over the Internet every 15 minutes. The problem is that I
also have multiple Hotmail accounts configured with
Outlook and in Outlook 2002 they coexisted well.

In Outlook 2002, I could startup in "Work Offline" mode,
then after Outlook 2002 started, I would go to the File
menu and select Connect to XXXX, where XXXX was the
Hotmail accounts I configured. That would allow the
Hotmail accounts to work in an "Online" mode while Outlook
itself was still in Offline mode and my Exchange account
would poll/sync periodically.

In Outlook 2003, I can't find the same option under the
File menu. So when I start Outlook 2003 in "Work Offline"
mode, my Exchange account still works fine, but since
there is no way to maintain a persistent Online connection
with my Hotmail accounts, I am very limited. When working
offline on Hotmail accounts, you can't move email messages
to different folders or delete email messages, you have to
be Online to do these and other functions when working
with a Hotmail account and Outlook . Offline mode with
Hotmail is very limiting. This was not a problem before
in Outlook 2002 because of the Connect to XXXX feature
under the File menu.

Please, please, please are there any Microsoft folks or
Outlook "experts" that know about this issue and can
help? I am going out-of-my mind and was told Outlook 2003
was going to do a better job of handling multiple email
accounts than Outlook 2002.

did you see if configuring the send and receive setting for offline use
helps?

Diane,

thyank you very much for the quick response. Yes the
Send/Receive stuff works fine and for the period of time
Send/Receive is processing, Outlook changes from Offline
to Online, but then goes back to Offline mode, which is
correct.

The problem that I have isolated is that in Outlook 2002
there used to be a Connect to feature under the file menu
that allowed you to set your Hotmail accounts in "Online"
or connected mode while the rest of Outlook 2002 remained
in Offline mode, which is perfect for an Exchange account
that you don't want to remain connected to an Exchange
server.

Do you have any ideas?
