FE / BE logistics

I created a FE and a BE and added user-level security to both. I read about
the benefits of MDE’s and I decided to create one. Access would not let me
create an MDE without first using the ‘Convert Database to Access 2002 File
Format’ option - which I did.

On the shared drive, I have:
- The BE
- A ‘Secured’ Workgroup Information File
- A .bak file of the BE
- The original FE
- The new FE (after converting to Access 2002 file format)
- The MDE of the new FE

What do I actually distribute to the end-user and what do I keep on the
shared drive? Do I need all of these files? Should all of these files be
kept together?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need to distribute the BE, the MDW, and the MDE version of the FE.
Keep the others for your own backups - esp the MDB version of the FE.
You will need it if/when you make changes to the FE.

The BE should be installed on a shared folder of a network drive,
where all users have full permissions to read, write, and delete
files. The FE should (must...) be installed on each user's local hard
disk. The best location for the MDW is subject to debate... some
developers recommend that you install it on each workstation, while
others recommend installing it on the server. I prefer the server. The
difference is a matter of ease of maintenance vs potential file
corruption.
