I keep on getting this error message whenever I try to start the Faxing
Service in Windows 2000 Pro. I am using Windows 2000 Pro SP4 as well a
Office XP Pro

Fax cannot login to profile ABC. I do not even have that profile on my PC
anymore and have removed all remnants of it from the system. I have tried
deleting the fax printer and putting back and still same results. Does
anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this issue. It is driving me crazy.

Thank you
Norman

Have tried both my user account and my system account

What is the account the FAX Service is using to startup?

I don't even want to integrate with Outlook I just want the basic faxing
functions and that will not work

Read the article anyway and fill us in on the missing details of what you've
done. You've done something to make the Fax Service think it's supposed to
be logging onto a MAPI profile. Only you can tell us what. The default
installation will not try to log onto a MAPI profile.

First off I have Outlook 2002 and not Outlook 2000. In the Fax Service
Console I have set Profile to be none and yet it still looks for the other
profile. Nothing is even listed under the profiles for me to select. I
have set the fax to not receive to inbox and still prompts me for a profile
that is no longer there. I have followed all the steps. What is weird is I
can send faxes fine using the cover page I just get this message every time
I try to send the fax.

Thanks

Outlook 2002 behaves the same way.
As the article states, the default behavior for Win 2K Fax is not to use
MAPI at all. You must have changed something to make it try to log on to a
MAPI profile. You should have followed _none_ of these steps. Did you? What
is logon account for the Fax Service?

OK I really wanted you to tell me the account the FAX Service is using to startup. Not what you have tried but what it is using when you get this issue. The system account has a name. And that is what I was looking for. I hope you are referring to LocalSystem. Logon as LocalSystem. If you are using that for the FAX service then you should not have this issue. Check it again. Make sure the LocalSystem is used to logon AND on the Logon tab of the properties of the FAX service make sure you have checked use LocalSystem account and do NOT check interact with the desktop.
