Fax question

I used to have fax software (in an older computer). I have WinXP, and am
wondering if the fax that comes with it will let me both send and receive
(if I add it in Add/Remove Programs). If not, is there any particular
software that some of you would recommend? I think what I had was WinFax
Pro, but I don't know if I can even find it in my computer room! Besides,
it's an older version.

WinFAX Pro has been completely "discontinued" by it "current" software
publisher, Symantec.

I have great experience with ActiveFax Ssrver. This software allows
"integration" with several other system (Linux, Mac, Unix etc..) as
long as you can set up a network printer via 'LPD."

The fax program that comes with XP is fine for both sending and
receiving. I use it all the time.

Start, Settings, Control Panel, Add / Remove Programs, Add Remove Windows
components, Fax Services.

There's more to it than that to set it up. You gotta make sure that the
modem is set up to receive in Device Manager and you gotta go into
Services and make sure that Fax is set to Automatic. You also gotta go
into the fax console and tell it where you want it to make a copy when a
fax comes in. In addition, when you first set up the fax in Add/Remove,
you gotta have your XP CD ready as you will be asked for it.

Hmmmm, I appreciate all the replies. I found my old software (WinFaxPro).
It's Version 8.0. Do you think it will install/work OK with WinXP?

Only one way to find out ... try it. If it doesn't work, try running it
in compatibility mode (right click on the .exe of WinFaxPro).

OK, thanks for that suggestion. "Mañana", as I have so much else going on
at the moment!
